At least once a day, every single day since about March, we have had some version of the following conversation.

“I’m going to be Tasha for Halloween.”

“I know, baby.”

“I’m going to be Tasha for Halloween.”

“Yes, sweetheart.”

“She is a girl.”

“Yes, she is.”

“I’m going to be Tasha for Halloween.”

“I know, honey.

I will be Tasha for Halloween and  Katie will be Hannah Montana.”

“No I’m NOT, Brooke. I don’t want to be Hannah Montana for Halloween. Mama, could you please make her stop?”

“I know Katie. Please don’t get upset, baby. You’ll be whatever you want to be for Halloween, OK?”

“Katie, what are YOU going to be for Halloween?”

“I DON’T KNOW, BROOKE!!!”

“Brooke, honey, most people don’t know what they are going to be for Halloween in ___ (Insert appropriate month starting with March.”

“I’m going to be Tasha for Halloween.”

“Yes, honey.” So you’ve said.

“She is a girl.”

“Yes, she is.”

“I’m going to be her.”

“Yes you are.”

ed note – I have no idea how she manages it, but unbelievably, she’s done it again. There are three Backyardigan character costumes available for purchase – Tyrone, Uniqua and Pablo. There is no Tasha costume. Hoo-flippiin-ray. Her record is intact. My child never ceases to amaze me.

  1. Well, Jess, at least you have 90 days of lead time to get working on it!

  2. You’ll be a whiz with the sewing machine by the time this kid is done with you. :-)

  3. I think you need a seamstress :) and a call to Nick Jr. Who thought that was a good idea to make three out of 5 costumes??? Obviously they have mistaken Tasha’s popularity :)

K wanted to be a letter A a couple of years ago. Specifically a RED LETTER A. Luckily I was able to get away with a sandwich board… Tasha is MUCH more complicated!

  4. Well, you might be able to make it w/o too much sewing. You would need to make the orange jumper and then you could cut out felt flowers and glue them on. Or go to a one of the chain craft stores and get an adult sized orange t-shirt, cut the sleeves off to make the jumper. I have a link for Tasha character mask. Dont know if you want links here, so feel free to email me.

One Halloween my son wanted to be a piece of candy corn. Well, they were all ‘girly’ so I started with a white undershirt, went to a place nearby that stocks stuff from Oriental Trading – got a baggie full of different sized foam candy corn. I let him glue them all over the t-shirt. It was very cute and he was very happy :o )

  5. My favorite costume tradition: I like to dress up as Guano Man and spend the entire night following around the guy dressed as Batman. Drives him crazy.

  6. oh, friends . way ahead of you :) .. i bargained my life away for the bright orange dress in katie’s closet (ok, i simply took her to buy a new dress ‘of her choice’ but wow, girl doesn’t mess around, trust me) .. RIT yellow dye for white tights and l/s white t-shirt, pre-cut sticky back felt daisies from ac moore, and katie’s handed down red mary janes

i bought bright yellow foam from which i will macgyver a ‘snout’ and yellow foam visors that i folded in half and attached to a $1 headband to make ears (currently too floppy – further engineering in the works)

oh, yeah .. look at me go .. i am SO getting the hang of this

nicole, i LOVE the red letter ‘a’ though i can’t help but think of poor hester prynne – thankfully i doubt hawthorne is real big with the ten and under set .. lol

lisa – the candy corn idea is soooo cool – love something they can do themselves!!!

    m – oh dear .. lololol

if not, i’m thinking ‘legs’ made of women’s black tights, stuffed with pillow stuffing and molded with bendable wire tied, sewn or taped to the back of a black long sleeved t-shirt??

  16. JAYSUS KEY-RIST, BROOKE!

    Give the mama a break.

What would happen if you bought her a Barbie princess costume and called it a day?

    Kidding.

C’mon. You know you love this.

  17. Isn’t this better than the indecision that poor Boots faces every year where he combines costumes? I mean, she’s not asking to be Tasha Montana, right? :)

    Comment by Uncle Lurch — August 6, 2009 @ 8:32 pm |Reply

  18. I was waiting for the comment that said you were already done with the costume. For those of you who don’t spend Halloween with Jess- her costumes are finished way head of time and always look amazing! Makes me think I should get my kids to start thinking about it!!!

  19. oh, uncle lurch – an excellent point indeed!

  23. This dialogue is so precious.

Fabulous costumes!!! And they both look absolutely adorable!

Thank goodness mine almost always wanted to be either a Disney princess or a generic princess. Can’t get any easier than that.

  24. Holy Backyardigans, Mommy!! I think your daughter lives in my house. Except ours was the day after Halloween, she has remembered this whole time, and I’m not going to get away with “making” Tasha. She wants it to look exactly like Tasha.

*head in hands* Do I have to give my mommy license back for breaking a 4 year old’s heart?
